Explanatory Note

Following consultation, the Board approved a new provisional scope of practice and changes to its prescribed qualifications (pathways to registration) in May 2025. The purpose of these changes is to simplify the registration process for overseas trained dietitians. The consultation included consultation on the fees required to cover the costs of the new registration pathways. The Board has provided a summary of the consultation responses on its website.

The new fees are:

  • Application for registration in the Scope of Practice Dietitian ($300), which applies to NZ Graduates, Dietitians from Australia who have Accreditation Practising Dietitian status with Dietitians Australia and all overseas trained dietitians who have completed the requirements of their provisional period. This fee replaces the separate fees for New Zealand graduates and dietitians coming from Australia.
  • Eligibility applications ($350) for overseas trained dietitians.
  • Application for registration in the Scope of Practice Dietitian, Provisional.

The Board approved the new fees at its May 2025 meeting. All other fees remain unchanged.

Dated at Wellington this 9th day of December 2025.

CHARLOTTE PROVAN, Registrar, NZ Dietitians Board.

Note: This notice replaces the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 21 February 2024, Notice No. 2024-sl693.
