Pursuant to section 5(2) of the Research, Science, and Technology Act 2010, the following research, science, and technology (RS&T) funding in the votes administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment is subject to a separate decision-making process:
- Marsden Fund, but only in relation to the decisions to:
- Invite expressions of interest to proceed to full proposals (based on eligibility and assessment criteria) in the 2026 Marsden Fund Round; and
- Determine which full proposals do not meet the eligibility criteria and, therefore, will not be considered by the Research Funding New Zealand Board for funding.
- Strategic Science Investment Fund but only in relation to funding for:
- Infrastructure;
- Crown Research Institutes and Independent Research Organisations that is to support their institutional capability;
- Biodiscovery Platform;
- Infectious Diseases Research Platform;
- Artificial Intelligence Research Platform; and
- Advanced Technology Platform: Future Magnetic and Materials Technologies.
- Talent and Science Promotion MCA;
- Health Research Fund;
- Partnered Research Fund;
- Catalyst Fund;
- Research Contract Management;
- Gene Technology Regulatory Functions;
- National Measurement Standards;
- Callaghan Innovation – Operations;
- Founder and Startup Support;
- Innovation Trailblazer Grant;
- Technology Incubator Programme;
- New to R&D Grant;
- Digital Technologies Sector Initiatives;
- Science, innovation and technology departmental and capital appropriations;
- All science, innovation and technology funding in a vote other than Vote Business, Science and Innovation.
This notice supersedes and revokes the notice entitled: Research, Science, and Technology Funding – Separate Decision-making Process (New Zealand Gazette, 27 November 2025, Notice No. 2025-go6841).
This notice comes into effect on the day it is published in the New Zealand Gazette.
