Notice Title

Curriculum Days for 2025

Under Regulation 8(5) of the Education (When State Schools Must Be Open and Closed) Regulations 2024, I specify the following circumstances in which Boards may close their schools in 2025 for curriculum related purposes. Boards may only close for four half days in total for these purposes.

For schools and kura covering Years 0–8, the closures must be for the purpose of staff participating in maths or pāngarau professional learning and development.

For schools and kura covering Years 9–13:

  • the closures for two half days must be for the purpose of staff participating in curriculum and assessment related activities
  • the closures for two half days must be for the purpose of staff participating in activities to prepare for implementation of the English, Te Reo Rangatira, Maths and Pāngarau curricula in 2026; and these closures may only occur in Term 4 2025.

For all closures, parents and caregivers must have been given at least six weeks’ prior notice of the closure.

Schools and kura that have some students in Years 08 and some students in Years 913 may only close for four half days in total for curriculum related matters during 2025.

Under Regulation 9(1) of the Education (When State Schools Must Be Open and Closed) Regulations 2024, I am also authorising schools and kura to close for four fewer half-days in 2025 for the purposes of the delivery of the curriculum days.
