Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (Fees Amendment) Notice 2024

Under sections 130 to 133 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (“Board”) gives notice that the fees and levies (GST included), set out in the Fees Schedule below, are payable effective from 29 July 2024.

Commencement

This notice comes into effect on 29 July 2024 and sets the updated schedule of fees and levies payable to the Board. Updates and amendments relate to:

  1. the removal of the following fee: Recertification: Assessment of documents/portfolio (The assessment of a portfolio of evidence of a practitioner seeking recognition of prior learning (RPL), or credit accumulation and transfer for formal recognition for any part of the recertification programme with the Board) and
  2. correction of the title in section D of the notice from: Monitoring required for registration or competence related matters to Monitoring required for registration and for matters related to competence or conduct.

All other fees remain unchanged.

As of 29 July 2024, the following notice is revoked: Corrigendum—Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (Fees Amendment) Notice 2024 (New Zealand Gazette, 10 January 2024, Notice No. 2024-gs90).

Optometrist or dispensing optician graduate registering with the Board for the first time

Application for a New Zealand or Australian trained graduate, registering for the first time within 12 months after graduating, and who has never registered in any other country or jurisdiction.

Application for a New Zealand or Australian trained graduate registering for the first time, more than 12 months after graduating.

Applicant registering in the provisional optometrist scope of practice

Application for the registration in the provisional optometrist scope of practice. (For a new graduate from an accredited and recognised New Zealand or Australian education institution, who applies for registration with the Board, within 12 months after graduating.)

Application for the registration in the provisional optometrist scope of practice. (For a graduate from a New Zealand or Australian education institution, and who will register for the first time, more than 12 months after graduating.)

Australian registered optometrist applying under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act

Application for registration from Australian registered optometrist pursuant to the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act of 1997 (TTMRA).

The assessment of qualifications for equivalence to the prescribed qualifications for dispensing opticians

Application for the assessment of international dispensing opticians’ qualification under section 15(2) of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003. (This excludes the Competency in Optical Dispensing Examination (CODE).)

Application for an annual practising certificate for optometrists in all scopes, where the application is received between 1 April and 30 September, including a disciplinary levy of $37.00.

C. Maintaining registration for non-practising practitioners

 

Application for maintaining registration and receiving communication from the Board.

This will include the recording of continuing professional development (CPD) credits but will not be required to meet the Board’s recertification requirements.)

D. Monitoring required for registration and for matters related to competence or conduct

Registration related supervision or mentoring session required by the Board (hourly fee). (A session is usually between 1 to 3 hours long. If a supervision report is required, an additional hour will be charged.)
