Notice of Making of Maritime Transport Instruments

Pursuant to Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019, notice is given of the making by the Director of Maritime New Zealand, on 17 March 2023, of the following maritime transport instruments:

  1. Maritime Transport (anchor and mooring equipment, including cables) Instrument MTI-404.44-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.44
  2. Maritime Transport (fire safety measures for vessels of 60 metres in length or more) Instrument MTI-404.130-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.130
  3. Maritime Transport (fire safety measures for vessels of 45 metres in length or more but less than 60 metres in length) Instrument MTI-404.131-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.131
  4. Maritime Transport (fire safety measures for vessels of less than 45 metres in length) Instrument MTI-404.132-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.132
  5. Maritime Transport (bulwarks, rails, and guards) Instrument MTI-404.181-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.181
  6. Maritime Transport (life saving appliances) Instrument MTI-404.190-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.190
  7. Maritime Transport (radiocommunications) Instrument MTI-404.210-1, under Maritime Rules Part 404 rule 404.210

These transport instruments will come into force on the same date the respective rule that enables each instrument comes into force.

The provisions under which these transport instruments were made are sections 452A and 452B of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 and the following Maritime Rules: 404.44, 404.130, 404.131, 404.132, 404.181, 404.190, and 404.210.

Maritime New Zealand is the administering agency responsible for these transport instruments.

These transport instruments are secondary legislation for the purpose of the Legislation Act 2019.

These transport instruments are available for inspection free of charge from Maritime New Zealand, Level 11, 1 Grey Street, Wellington, or on the Maritime New Zealand website at: www.maritimenz.govt.nz/rules.
