Notice of Proposals to Alter Geographic and Undersea Feature Names

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 (“Act”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa gives notice of proposals to alter four geographic names and one undersea feature name as specified in the Schedule below.

Submissions on these proposed geographic and undersea feature names may be made on the form linked from https://www.linz.govt.nz/consultations/place-name-consultation, by email to: nzgbsubmissions@linz.govt.nz, or by writing to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, c/o Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145.

In accordance with section 17 of the Act, submissions must state with reasons whether a proposal is supported or objected to. If an objection is made, then the submission may suggest another name or support the existing name.

Herwin Creek

A small stream flowing westwards for approximately 3km from the south end of Richmond Range into Motupiko River, northeast of St. Arnaud. NZTopo50-BR25 936778 to BR25 912781. Alteration from 5 Mile Creek (official by New Zealand Gazette, 27 May 2021, Notice No. 2021-ln2005).

Pūāwhē

A peak at 953m on Pirongia Mountain, approximately 20km west of Te Awamutu. NZTopo50-BE33 824927. Alteration from The Cone (recorded name).

Rangiriri

Alteration of the existing unofficial locality names Rangiriri (NZTopo50-BC33 888553), Rangiriri West (NZTopo50-BC33 881540) and Churchill (NZTopo50-BC33 836560), which are north of Huntly, to one official name with an officially defined extent (boundary). The proposed extent is depicted at https://www.linz.govt.nz/rangiriri.

Te Kakau Bank

An undersea bank centred at -41.5703 latitude, 175.4913 longitude, offshore from the southeast coast of the North Island approximately 5km east of Te Kakau Point. Alteration from Kaukau Bank (recorded undersea feature name).

Whangamarino

Alteration of the official locality name Whangamarino (NZTopo50-BC33 873643), which is north of Huntly, to officially define the extent (boundary). The proposed extent is depicted at https://www.linz.govt.nz/whangamarino.
