Pursuant to the definition of “special programme” contained in section 10 of the Education and Training Act 2020, the Secretary for Education hereby approves the following types of programmes as special programmes for the purposes of an enrolment scheme:
- Any class or programme established by the school for which students are accepted on the basis of need for additional support arising from learning and behaviour needs or disabilities.
- Any class which delivers a Māori language programme which is resourced by the Ministry of Education at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
- Any class which delivers a Pacific language* programme, including Pacific bilingual and immersion education pathways, where at least one Pacific language makes up 31% of the language of instruction.
- Any class providing a programme of study to students who have a letter from Auckland University of Technology Mangere Refugee Education Centre identifying them as being part of the Government's official refugee programme or from the New Zealand Immigration Services establishing the student's refugee status.
