Special Programmes for the Purposes of an Enrolment Scheme

Pursuant to section 11B of the Education Act 1989, the Secretary for Education hereby approves the following types of programmes as special programmes for the purposes of an enrolment scheme:
1. Any class or unit established by the school for which students are accepted on the basis of special educational needs arising from learning and behaviour difficulties, sensory, intellectual, communication or physical disabilities, or any combination of these.
2. Any class which delivers a Maori language programme which is resourced by the Ministry of Education at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
3. Any class which delivers a Pacific language* immersion programme and/or offers a bilingual education programme where at least one Pacific language makes up 30% of the language of instruction.
4. Any class providing a programme of study to students who have a letter from Auckland University of Technology Mangere Refugee Education Centre identifying them as being part of the Government's official refugee programme or from the New Zealand Immigration Services establishing the student's refugee status.
