Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Rongomaiwahine) Notice 2022 (Notice No. MPI 1467)

Pursuant to Regulation 9 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Rongomaiwahine) Notice 2022.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 26 April 2022.

3. Customary Food Gathering Area/rohe Moana

This notice applies to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana in the New Zealand fisheries waters described by clause 3(a) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2007 (New Zealand Gazette, 15 March 2007, No. 30, page 791), as amended by the Corrigendum—Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2007 (New Zealand Gazette, 19 July 2012, No. 86, page 2374), which is an area from Paritu to Waikokopu at Mahia.

4. Tangata Whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are the whānau, hapū, and marae of Rongomaiwahine, as represented by the Mahia Māori Committee.

5. New Appointments

(1) The Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has appointed the following people as tāngata kaitiaki/tiaki for the rohe moana:

  1. Mohi Kereru; and
  2. Brian Wilcox.

(2) The appointments took effect on 27 January 2022.
