Dated at Wellington this 31st day of July 2020.
DAVID DUNBAR, Registrar, Medical Council of New Zealand.
On 12 June 2020, Council published a consultation document on its website, outlining the reasons for proposed increases to the practising certificate (PC) fee and annual disciplinary levy and seeking feedback on the proposals. The consultation document was also sent to all doctors, the Ministry of Health, district health boards and other organisations with an interest. Council proposed a PC fee increase of $34.28 to $605.67 and a disciplinary levy increase of $15.44 to $169.80 (both GST exclusive). These fees were based on Council’s strategic objectives as outlined in the Strategic Plan; Council’s budgets and projections for the 2019/2020 and 2020/21 financial years; and Council’s general, disciplinary and examination fund reserves as at 31 May 2020.
On 21 July 2020, Council received and considered a report on the feedback from the consultation. Council resolved to approve the new practising certificate fee of $599.96 and disciplinary levy of $168.25 (both excluding GST) with an effective date of 1 September 2020. These fees are payable together, upon application for a practising certificate.
*Fee for accreditation of New Zealand-based vocational training and recertification providers
On 18 November 2019, the Council released a consultation document, seeking feedback on the proposed introduction of a fee for the accreditation of New Zealand-based vocational training providers. On 12 February 2020, the Council received and considered a report on the feedback from the consultation.
The Council resolved to approve the fees now included in this Notice, which distinguish larger providers (with more than 300 paying members) from smaller providers (with fewer than 300). These fees do not apply to the accreditation of bi-national (Australian and New Zealand) vocational training providers, for which the fees are set by the Australian Medical Council.
Other fees adjusted for inflation
All other fees have been inflation-adjusted by 2.5% from 1 September 2020, with the exception of the new fees for accreditation New Zealand-based vocational training and recertification providers.
1. All fees are non-refundable unless denoted.
2. Reduced fee payable for first time applicants applying for registration within a provisional or special purpose scope of practice where the appointment is for six months or less. For appointments longer than six months, the PC fee will be charged to bring medical practitioners on to their PC cycle.
3. Fee includes a disciplinary levy of $168.25.
4. Services provided by external providers are on-charged in full by Council. A one-off administration fee is charged up front to cover the cost of Council staff time and overheads.
