Dated at Wellington this 20th day of July 2017.

DAVID DUNBAR, Registrar, Medical Council of New Zealand.

Explanatory note

Increase in fees

The Council resolved, at its meeting on 13 and 14 June 2017, to adopt an increase of 2.2 % across all gazetted fees, with effect from 1 September 2017.

The main reason for the fee increase was to provide Council with a break even budget while ensuring that any fee increase was limited to the current year’s inflation rate. Council was also mindful of the increasing cost pressure through ongoing disciplinary cases taken against doctors.

From 1 September 2017, this notice replaces these earlier notices:

Key to annotations

1. Fee is not refundable.

2. Fee may be waived for some categories.

3. Fee for medical practitioners previously on the register generally returning from overseas, both general and vocational. Also includes medical practitioners whose registration under the Medical Practitioners Act 1995 was cancelled on request or as a result of a revision of the register.

4. Reduced fee payable if the medical practitioner is registered within a provisional or special purpose scope of practice where the appointment is for less than six months. If appointments are for longer than six months, the PC fee will be charged on a pro rata basis to bring medical practitioners on to their PC cycle.

5. Fee includes a disciplinary levy of $123.62 and may be charged on a pro rata basis to bring medical practitioners on to their PC cycle.

6. Services provided by external providers are on charged in full by the Council. A one-off administration fee is charged up front to cover the cost of Council staff time and overheads.

7. Fee is per hour but may be adjusted depending on the nature of the query. Any disbursements will be recovered at cost.
