Explanatory Note

Application for provisional registration (Australian General Registrant)

In October 2016, Council approved a proposal that general registration in Australia, achieved by way of an Australian Medical Council (AMC) examination pass or the completion of a successful AMC-approved workplace-based assessment, should be prescribed as an additional qualification for registration in the provisional general scope of practice in New Zealand. The new registration pathway was included in the Scopes of Practice and Prescribed Qualifications for the Practice of Medicine in New Zealand Notice 2018, published in the New Zealand Gazette on 11 May 2018. That Notice comes into effect 30 June 2018. The fee for this new registration pathway application is set at the same level as that currently charged for applications for provisional general registration from New Zealand and Australian graduates.
