Pursuant to section 47(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period from 3 March 2017 to 6 April 2017 inclusive, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 19.62(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Operating Requirements – Maritime transport operator responsible for safe ships – Valid Certificate of Survey issued under Rule 44.41.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 22.20(5), Appendix 1, 3(4) – Collision Prevention – Lights and shapes – Horizontal positioning and spacing of masthead light for power-driven vessel.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.34(1)(a)–(b) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Unlimited area – Requirements for ships operating in unlimited areas to carry at least navigational and engine room watchkeepers as specified.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2)(b) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Seafarers holding minimum required certificates and minimum number of crew specified applicable table and flow-chart.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(4)(b), Table 11 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Applicable tables and flow-charts for passenger ships operating within enclosed water limits.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 40A, Appendix 1, 1.2(4) – Intact stability of decked ships – Inclining test and stability criteria must be determined from results of an inclining experiment conducted or witnessed by a surveyor.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.12(4) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Doorways and other access openings must not be fitted in the collision bulkhead below the freeboard deck, except that in a ship of 20 metres in length overall or less.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 40A.12(7) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Subdivision – Arrangement of watertight bulkheads.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 40A.13(2) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Intact stability of a ship must be determined in accordance with Appendix 1.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.13(5) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Conditions for residual stability of a ship in the damaged condition.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.40(2) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Electrical systems – Compliance with requirements for ships of 24 metres or less in length.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.42(3) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Emergency lighting – An alternative source of power must be available to power navigation lights in accordance with the requirements of Part 22 of the maritime rules.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.58(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Provision of anchors and cables in accordance with the requirements of a classification society listed in in rule 40A.9(2)(a), or Table 1 in Appendix 7.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.4(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Permanent markings of Maritime New Zealand numbers on ships built prior to 4 September 2008.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.9(3) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Construction of ship under survey by surveyor who holds a Certificate of Surveyor Recognition.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.13(4), Appendix 1, 1.4 – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Subdivision and stability – Ship engaged in towing operations must be a decked ship and meet the intact stability requirements of Appendix 1 – Intact stability – Tugs.

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 40C.51(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Provision of fire appliances in accordance with requirements of Appendix 2.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.52(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Provision of life-saving appliances in accordance with requirements of Appendix 3.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.53(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Provision of radiocommunication equipment must be provided on a ship proceeding beyond enclosed waters in accordance with requirements of Appendix 4.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.60 – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Towing gear requirements.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.79(2)(d) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Provision of life-saving appliances on a barge carrying person on board e.g. rocket parachute flares and buoyant smoke signals.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40G.5(1)(a) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Novel ships – Owner must ensure safety case contains relevant particulars set out in Appendix 1 for the design, construction, equipment and operation of the ship.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40G.6(2)(b) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Novel ships – Issuance of initial certificate of fitness if ship’s design has been approved by surveyor or classification society.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 45.29(2) – Navigational Equipment – Passenger ship must be fitted with at least two radar installations.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 50.9(1) – Medical Stores – Ship operating in the unlimited area – Medical stores – Scale 4 – Rule 50.9 applies to any ship operating in the unlimited area.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 73.4(1) – Logbooks – Requirement to carry a New Zealand official logbook on board the ship in the form specified.
