Pursuant to section 74 of the Legislation Act 2019 and section 448(2) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 (as it applied before 28 October 2021), notice is given that the Associate Minister of Transport on behalf of the Minister of Transport has made the following marine protection rules:

Marine Protection Rules Amendments 2025

These rules were made on 8 October 2025 and will come into force on 1 December 2025.

The empowering provisions under which these rules were made are sections 386, 387, 388, and 390 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994.

These rules are secondary legislation for the purpose of the Legislation Act 2019.

These rules are available for inspection free of charge, or for purchase, from Maritime New Zealand, Level 11, 1 Grey Street, Wellington, or on the Maritime New Zealand website at: www.maritimenz.govt.nz/rules.

Maritime New Zealand is the administering agency responsible for the rules.
