Notice is hereby given that the Christchurch City Council proposes to take, under the Public Works Act 1981, the land described in the below Schedule (“Land”).

The land is vacant and is required as part of the Pages Road Bridge Project for road purposes and will be declared road thereafter.

The reasons why the Christchurch City Council considers it essential to take the land are as follows:

  1. The Land adjoins Pages Road near the Avon River adjacent to where the existing Pages Road Bridge is located.
  2. The existing bridge is earthquake prone and needs to be replaced.
  3. The Land is required to enable a realignment of the road and the replacement bridge, which will provide for increased capacity, improved flood protection for the road, and will enable the existing bridge to be used while construction is underway.
  4. The Land is also required to improve emergency egress and access in the event of a natural disaster and to improve walking and cycling access and connectivity on the road.

The last known registered proprietor of the land is deceased and has no known legal representative. Notice to the owner or any successor has been served by placing public notice in The Press of the Christchurch City Council’s intention to take the land and advising of their right to object.

Any other person having the right to object may send a written objection to the Registrar, Environment Court, Justice and Emergency Services Precinct, 20 Lichfield Street Christchurch. Postal Address: PO Box 2069, Christchurch 8013 or WX11113 Christchurch, within 20 working days of this notice.

If any objection is made in accordance with this notice a public hearing will be held with the right of the objector to appear and be heard personally unless the objector otherwise requires, and each objector will be informed of the time and place of the hearing.

Any person requiring further information in respect of this advice should contact Stuart McLeod, Christchurch City Council, 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch. Postal Address PO Box 73014, Christchurch 8154. Email stuart.mcleod@ccc.govt.nz. Telephone: (03) 941 8520.

The land is located to the north side of the existing Pages Road bridge, where it crosses the Otakaro/Avon River.
