Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for (Poihākena Marae, Ngā Kaitiaki o Whāingaroa Rohe Moana) Notice 2025 (Notice No. MPI 1983)

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Poihākena Marae, Ngā Kaitiaki o Whāingaroa Rohe Moana.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 12 December 2025.

3. Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana in the New Zealand fisheries waters described as a line commencing at a point on the line of mean high-water springs at Papanui Point (37°53.12′S 174°45.39′E), then proceeding in a north-easterly direction following the line of mean high-water springs in and around Raglan Harbour and up to a point at Waipōhutukawa (37°43.34′S 174°49.30′E), then due west for 200 nautical miles to a point on the line of the Exclusive Economic Zone, then following the line of the Exclusive Economic Zone south to a point due west of Papanui Point, then due east for 200 nautical miles to Papanui Point being the point of commencement. The geographical coordinates named are in terms of the WGS84 datum.

4. Tāngata whenua

The tāngata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Poihākena Marae from the hapū of Tainui-Tahinga.

5. Appointment cancelled

(1) the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Paddy Taipari Kaa as a tangata kaitiaki/tiaki for the rohe moana.

(2) The cancellation took effect at the end of 3 December 2025.

New Appointment

(1) The Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has appointed Manihera Forbes as a tangata kaitiaki/tiaki for the rohe moana.

(2) The appointment took effect on 3 December 2025.
