Pursuant to sections 200(1)(a), 204 and 205 of the Education and Training Act 2020, I hereby designate Te Kura o Waharoa (2047) as a Year 1–8 designated character school, kura-a-iwi, that will operate in accordance with section 204 of the Education and Training Act 2020 with effect from 1 January 2025.

The kura will teach in te reo Māori and the designated character of the kura will be:

Te Kura o Waharoa will provide a kaupapa Māori education, underpinned by te reo Maaori me oona tikanga, that nurtures the cultural, spiritual, and academic development of uri as Ngaati Hauaa.

Teaching and learning will be through localised, whaanau-centred marau aa-kura grounded in Tumuakitanga, Ngaati Hauaatanga, and Ngaati Te Orotanga, and emphasising:

Ngaati Hauaa karakia, mooteatea and waiata.

Ngaati Hauaa, Ngaati Te Oro-Ngaati Rangi Taawhaki puuraakau and iwi history.

The skills, knowledge and attributes of Ngaati Hauaa tupuna (Te Uaratanga o Ngaati Hauaa) including Te Whiitiki (innovation), Whakaiti (servant leadership), Kotahitanga (unity) and Wairua (spirituality).

The constitution of Te Kura o Waharoa Board shall not be changed by this notice.

Under section 205(4) of the Act, I name Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa as a body having a special affiliation with the kura.
