A compensation payment has been made to David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney in respect of a specified claim under the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“Act”).

The Act requires that after the Secretary of Justice makes certain deductions from the compensation payment, the surplus remaining goes into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account to enable victims of David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney to make claims against it.

Any money left after any victims’ claims have been paid will be paid to David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney.

On 10 December 2024, $20,000 was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on behalf of David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney.

The money paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account is held in trust for David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney until it has been paid out in accordance with subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Any person who has been a victim of David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney in respect of an offence for which David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney was convicted in a Court of New Zealand, is entitled to make a claim against the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of David Michael Sweeney aka Michael David Sweeney.

Claims by victims are not limited to the amount available in the Trust Account.
