Fisheries (Declaration of Orari Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2025 (Notice No. MPI 1939)

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Declaration of Orari Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2025.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 16 June 2025.

3. Declaration of Orari Mātaitai Reserve

(1) This notice declares the Orari Mātaitai Reserve.

(2) The area of the mātaitai reserve is the area of South Island fisheries waters within the following lines:

  1. starting at a point on the mean high-water mark near the terminus of White Road (at 44°15.353′S, 171°23.276′E), then
  2. proceeding in a straight line in a north-westerly direction for approximately 0.1km to a point along White Road (at 44°15.324′S, 171°23.224′E), then
  3. proceeding in a straight line in north-westerly direction for approximately 0.75km to a point at the intersection of White Road and Prattley Road (at 44°15.233′S, 171°22.658′E), then
  4. proceeding in a straight line in a north-northeasterly direction for approximately 0.75km to a point at the intersection of Prattley Road and McCaulay Road (at 44°14.865′S, 171°22.904′E), then
  5. proceeding in a generally westerly direction for approximately 3km along a line following McCaulay Road to its intersection with Rise Road (at 44°14.33′S, 171°20.734′E), then
  6. proceeding in a straight line in a north-westerly direction along Rise Road for approximately 7.8km to a point at its intersection with State Highway One (at 44°11.342′S, 171°16.659′E), then
  7. proceeding in a generally northerly direction along State Highway One for approximately 7.5km to a point on the true left bank of the Orari River (at 44°7.674′S, 171°18.569′E), then
  8. proceeding in a straight line in a north-easterly direction for approximately 1.5km to a point at the intersection of Old Main South Road and Newland Road (at 44°7.155′S, 171°19.583′E), then
  9. proceeding in a straight line in a south-easterly direction along Newland Road for approximately 10.5km to a point at its intersection with Rolleston Road (at 44°11.746′S, 171°24.274′E), then
  10. proceeding along Māori Reserve Road for approximately 0.25km to a point (at 44°11.838′S, 171°24.438′E), then
  11. continuing to the end of Māori Reserve Road in a straight line in a south-easterly direction for approximately 3km to a point at its intersection with Parke Road (at 44°12.458′S, 171°26.544′E), then
  12. proceeding in a straight line in a south-easterly direction for approximately 1.5km to a point on the mean high-water mark (at 44°12.741′S, 171°27.537′E), then
  13. proceeding along the mean high-water mark in a generally south-westerly direction to the starting point.
