In accordance with section 11 of the Electricity Industry Act 2010 (“Act”), the Electricity Authority (“Authority”) gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Principal Exemption and Commencement

(1) This notice amends the exemption granted by the Authority on 21 June 2022 entitled “Electricity Industry (Exemption No. 321 (Transpower NZ Limited)) Exemption Notice”.

(2) This Notice comes into force on the day after the date it is notified in the New Zealand Gazette.

2. Amendments to Principal Exemption

(1) Delete and replace clause 3a of the principal exemption with the following:

“a. The close of 31 May 2028; or”

(2) Add a new clause 5 to the principal exemption:

“5. Conditions

In the case of a grid injection point, Transpower must have processes in place to ensure that a party is responsible for submission information at the initial or first electrical connection.”

3. Reasons for Granting the Amendment

(1) The amendment to the exemption meets the tests in section 11(4) of the Act for the following reasons:

  1. Transpower requested the exemption be extended, is aware of the proposed amendment, and had opportunity to comment;
  2. the amendment to the exemption will provide additional time for the Authority to examine a potential issue in the Code and, if necessary, implement changes;
  3. the amendment to the exemption will enable Transpower, as the grid owner, to continue processing electrical connections and disconnections in an efficient manner; and
  4. the amendment is desirable for the purpose of achieving the Authority’s objectives.
