This notice is made under section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, by the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries, after complying with the requirements of that section.

Notice

1. Title

This is the Fisheries (Te rāhui kuku ki tua o Kanawa Temporary Closure) Notice 2024.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 13 November 2024.

3. Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on the close of 12 November 2026.

4. Te rāhui kuku ki tua o Kanawa is closed in respect of mussels for 2 years

(1) A person must not take mussels from Te rāhui kuku ki tua o Kanawa.

(2) In this clause:

mussels means a shellfish of the species Perna canaliculus (green-lipped mussel), Mytilus galloprovincialis (blue mussel), or Atrina zelandica (horse mussel)

Te rāhui kuku ki tua o Kanawa means all those New Zealand fisheries waters within Ōhiwa Harbour enclosed by a line:

    1. commencing at a point near Port Ōhope Recreation Reserve and boat ramp (at 37°59.376′S and 177°07.790′E); then
    2. proceeding in a straight line in a south-westerly direction approximately 130 meters to a point offshore (at 37°59.448′S and 177°07.768′E); then
    3. proceeding in a straight line in a south-easterly direction approximately 650 meters to a point offshore (at 37°59.528′S and 177°08.197′E); then
    4. proceeding in a straight line in a north-easterly direction approximately 130 meters to a point onshore (at 37°59.456′S and 177°08.218′E); then
    5. proceeding in a straight line in a north-westerly direction to the point of commencement.
