Declaration Terminating State of Local Emergency for a CDEM Group Area and Notice of Local Transition Period for a CDEM Group Area

Background

On the 14 February 2024 at 6.13pm, I, Neil Brown, declared a state of local emergency in the Christchurch City Council and Selwyn District Council districts, within the Canterbury CDEM Group Area, owing to the Port Hills fire and the need to manage evacuations and cordons for public safety.

I am now terminating the state of local emergency with regard to Christchurch City Council and Selwyn District Council districts, within the Canterbury CDEM Group Area and giving notice of a transition period over Christchurch City Council and Springs Ward in Selwyn District Council.

1. Termination of a state of local emergency for Christchurch City Council and Selwyn District Council

I, Neil Brown, terminate the state of local emergency described above.

The termination of state of local emergency takes effect at 1.00pm on 21 February 2024.

2. Notice of local transition period for Christchurch City Council and Springs Ward in Selwyn District Council

I, Neil Brown, give notice of a local transition period over in Christchurch City Council and Springs Ward in Selwyn District Council owing to the management of ongoing recovery from the Port Hills fire.

This transition period—

  1. Comes into force immediately on the execution of this declaration and notice;
  2. is in force for 28 days;
  3. ends at 1.00pm on 20 March 2024, unless extended or terminated earlier.
