Notice of Payment into Victims’ Claims Trust Account

A compensation payment has been made to Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea in respect of a specified claim under the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“Act”).

The Act requires that after the Secretary of Justice makes certain deductions from the compensation payment, the surplus remaining goes into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account to enable victims of Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea to make claims against it.

Any money left after any victims’ claims have been paid will be paid to Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea.

On 24 January 2024, $500.00 was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on behalf of Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea.

The money paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account is held in trust for Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea until it has been paid out in accordance with subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Any person who has been a victim of Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea, in respect of an offence for which Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea was convicted in a Court of New Zealand, is entitled to make a claim against the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Pati Tumaialu; Pati Mamea; Peter Lase; Pati Tumaialua; Mose Maliefulu; Poto Mamea.

Claims by victims are not limited to the amount available in the Trust Account.
