Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Appointment of Tāngata Kaitiaki/tiaki for Te Runanga o Ngati Awa) Notice (No. 2) 2024 (Notice No. MPI 1865)

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki Appointment of tāngata kaitiaki/tiaki for Te Runanga o Ngati Awa.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 23 September 2024.

3. Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana in the New Zealand fisheries waters enclosed by a line:

  1. commencing on the coastline at a point north of Wahieroa (37°53.8′S 176°49.9′E); then
  2. proceeding northerly for 24 nautical miles to a point (37°29.8′S 176°47.0′E); then
  3. proceeding south-easterly to a point (37°34.4′S 177°00.7′E); then
  4. proceeding southerly for 24 nautical miles to a point on the coastline at the mouth of the Maraetotara Stream (37°58.3′S 177°03.7′E); then
  5. proceeding generally westerly along the mean high-water springs mark to the point of commencement.

4. Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Te Runanga o Ngati Awa.

New Appointment

(1) The Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has appointed Mike Panapa as a tangata kaitiaki/tiaki for the rohe moana.

(2) The appointment took effect on 2 September 2024.
