Notification of Proposed Maritime Rules
In accordance with section 446(a) and (b) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 (“Act”), Maritime New Zealand, on behalf of the Associate Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make the following maritime rules (the draft rules) which are now available for public comment:
These draft rules are the first consultation package for a proposed set of new rules. The new rules are intended to reform the current maritime design, construction, and equipment rules that set requirements for the survey and certification of, and the design, construction, and equipment requirements for, New Zealand domestic commercial ships.
Comments are invited on the above proposed rules developed under the Act.
In addition, the Director of Maritime New Zealand is proposing to make transport instruments for design, construction, and equipment requirements under the proposed new enabling provisions in the draft rules. The following proposed transport instruments are included in the consultation package in order for the Director to consult on them pursuant to section 452C of the Act:
Consultation will commence on 7 August 2024.

Submissions must be made by email or post by 5.00pm on 18 October 2024.
