Pursuant to Regulation 87 of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 (“Regulations”), I, Mark Stephen Wogan, Manager, Energy Safety, acting under the delegated authority of the Chief Executive, WorkSafe New Zealand, give the following notice:

1. Short Title and Commencement

1. This notice is the Electricity Regulations (Prohibition of Serene S207T) Notice 2024.
2. The prohibitions contained in this notice take effect on the next calendar day following the publication of this notice in New Zealand Gazette.

2. Prohibited Equipment

1. The importation, sale (including an offer to sell) and installation of the following model of electrical appliance, as described in clause 3, is prohibited:
• Serene S207T wall mounted bathroom fan heater appliance (S207T) imported, sold, or installed on or after 24 January 2018.

3. Description

1. Known descriptions of the prohibited S207T appliance include the following:
• Wall-mounted fan heater with step-down thermostat control,
• Advertised features include:
• Automatic step-down thermostat,
• Optional 30-minute runback timer,
• Blue LED power indicator,
• Pull-cord on-off switch or directly wired,
• Available finishes include stainless steel or white with gray wall bracket and cast metal grill.
• Approximate dimensions: 375mm wide, 220mm high and 140mm deep, and 2.35kg weight.
2. The image attached to this notice shows an example of the prohibited S207T.

4. Reasons for prohibition

1. The prohibited S207T appliance may be electrically unsafe in that it is not constructed so as to be safe under both normal and abnormal conditions.
2. The reasons for believing the prohibited units may be unsafe are that samples of the S207T failed an abnormal operation test and the glow wire testing requirements at the New Zealand test temperature of 850 °C set out in AS/NZS 60335.2.30: 2015 Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2.30: Particular requirements for room heaters.

Informative Note: At present WorkSafe considers the likelihood of a fire or overheating event involving the S207T is low. WorkSafe will continue to monitor for any notifications involving the S207T and may increase the intervention level.

Informative Note: The test results referred to in clause 4(b) of this notice confirm the S207T is not compliant with the relevant standard for New Zealand and should not have been supplied into New Zealand.
