Fisheries (Tangoiro Waihirere Temporary Closure) Notice 2023 (MPI No. 1658)

Under section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries, after complying with the requirements of that section, gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Tangoiro/Waihirere Temporary Closure) Notice 2023.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 26 July 2023.

3. Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on the close of 25 July 2025.

4. Tangoiro/Waihirere closed in respect of all shellfish and finfish

(1) A person must not take shellfish or finfish from the Tangoiro/Waihirere Closure Area while this notice is in force.

(2) In this clause –

Shellfish includes all species of the phylum Echinodermata and phylum Mollusca and all species of the class Crustacea at any stage of their life history, whether living or dead.

Finfish includes all species of finfish of the classes Agnatha, Chondrichthyes, and Osteichthyes, at any stage of their life history, whether living or dead.

Tangoiro/Waihirere Closure Area means all those New Zealand fisheries waters enclosed by a line –

    1. starting at a point on the mean high-water mark south-west of Māwhai Point at 38°11.205′S and 178°21.163′E; then
    2. proceeding in a straight line in a south-westerly direction to a point on the mean high-water mark at the southern end of Waihirere Beach at 38°12.206′S and 178°20.039′E; then
    3. proceeding in a generally north-easterly direction along the mean-high-water mark to the starting point.
