Extension of Reporting Timeframes for Persons in Charge of Animals Under the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 in the Waikato, Wairarapa, Tararua and Manawatu

Pursuant to section 34(2)(a) of the National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) Act 2012 (“Act”), I Stephen Stuart, acting under delegated authority as Chief Executive of National Animal Identification and Tracing Limited, which is the designated NAIT organisation, give notice of alternative time limits to those prescribed by Regulations made under the Act for the provision of information by any person in charge of animals (PICA).

The alternative time limits apply only to those PICAs with NAIT animals located within the below areas affected by the National state of emergency (section 34(2)(a)(i) of the Act) declared at time of publication.

  • Waikato Region
  • Masterton District
  • Carterton District
  • South Wairarapa District
  • Tararua District, and
  • Manawatu Region

The alternative time limits are:

  • a person registering as a PICA under section 27(1) of the Act must do so by 6 March 2023.
  • a PICA making a declaration under section 31(1) of the Act must make it by 6 March 2023.
  • a PICA tagging an animal in accordance with regulation 20 of the NAIT (Obligations and Exemptions) Regulations 2012 must do so by 6 March 2023.
  • a PICA making a declaration under section 32(1) of the Act must make it by 6 March 2023.

This extension comes into effect on the day after it is published in the New Zealand Gazette.
