Extension of Reporting Timeframes for Persons in Charge of Animals Under the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 in the Auckland Region

Pursuant to section 34(2)(a) of the National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) Act 2012 (“Act”), I, Stephen Stuart, acting under delegated authority as Chief Executive of National Animal Identification and Tracing Limited, which is the designated NAIT organisation, give notice of alternative time limits to those prescribed by Regulations made under the Act for the provision of information by any person in charge of animals (PICA).

The alternative time limits apply only to those PICAs with NAIT animals located within the Auckland Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Area.

The alternative time limits are:

  • a person registering as a PICA under section 27(1) of the Act must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the applicable state of local emergency.
  • a PICA making a declaration under section 31(1) of the Act must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the applicable state of local emergency.
  • a PICA tagging an animal in accordance with regulation 20 of the NAIT (Obligations and Exemptions) Regulations 2012 must do so within 48 hours of the cessation of the applicable state of local emergency.
  • a PICA making a declaration under section 32(1) of the Act must make it within 48 hours of the cessation of the applicable state of local emergency.

This extension comes into effect on 11 May 2023 and expires 48 hours after the cessation of the applicable state of local emergency.
