Pursuant to sections 190, 204 and 205 of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish Te Kura ā Iwi o Te Waimate to be located in Waimate North, Kaikohe, a Year 1–8 kura, and designate the kura as a designated character school under sections 204 and 205 of the Act.

The designated character of the school will be full Māori immersion using Te Reo o te Haukāinga (local dialect) and other languages / dialects within the community. There will be a focus to strengthen the connection of tamariki with their whenua through the lens of not only the Pākehā settlers, but through Kupe, his exploits and his connections to Te Waimate and his descendants.

The constitution of the Board will be a standard constitution under section 119 of the Act.
