Pursuant to sections 190, 204 and 205 of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish Te Wānanga ō Tamapahore Centre for Science and Creative Technologies in Bay of Plenty – Waiariki, a Year 7–13 co-educational wharekura, and designate the wharekura as a designated character school under section 204 of the Act.

The designated character of the school gives recognition to the importance of Wairuatanga that is deeply embedded within the marae communities of the Bay of Plenty – Waiariki district.

The wharekura will offer programmes that reflect the cultural history, connecting learners to the whakapapa of the area, and their own respective whakapapa.

The wharekura will provide Māori immersion education delivering a STEAM based curriculum (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) themed to Te Kawa ā Tangaroa Moana and creative technologies.

The constitution of the board will be a standard constitution under section 119 of the Act.
