In accordance with section 74(1)(b) of the Legislation Act 2019 and section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998 (as it applied before 28 October 2021), notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Efficiency and Emissions Data 2022 (“Rule”).

The objective of the Rule is to specify—

1. data about the carbon dioxide emissions, fuel consumption, and efficiency that must be supplied before a vehicle may be certified for entry into service in New Zealand; and
2. the requirements for identifying, producing and supplying the data; and
3. the carbon dioxide emissions of a vehicle for the purposes of Part 13 of the Land Transport Act 1998 and the Land Transport (Clean Vehicle Discount Scheme) Charges Regulations 2022.

The Rule comes into force on 1 April 2022. The Rule also revokes Land Transport Rule: Fuel Consumption Information 2008.
