Amendment of Notice for Prescribed Qualifications for General Osteopathic Scope of Practice Registered Osteopaths

This notice is given pursuant to section 12 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (“Act”) and comes into effect on 6 December 2022.

The Osteopathic Council (“Council”) amends the notice titled “Replacement of Notice for Prescribed Qualifications for General Osteopathic Scope of Practice Registered Osteopaths” dated 7 April 2021 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, 15 April 2021, Notice No. 2021-gs1297.

The following amendments are made to the original notice:

  1. The replacement of a. and b. under Prescribed qualifications, New Zealand Graduates

Prescribed Qualifications

New Zealand Graduates

All applicants must hold a qualification:

  1. Accredited by the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand, being:
    1. a Master of Osteopathy; or
    2. a Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Osteopathy; and
  2. Awarded by an institution accredited by the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand.

Explanatory Note

The Osteopathic Council has accredited qualifications previously delivered by subsidiaries (Unitec Institute of Technology and Ara Institute of Canterbury) to be delivered by Te Pūkenga New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.
