Notification of Application of Overlay Classification and Protection Principles—Part of Pureora Forest Park which Falls Within the Area of Interest, Including Pureora Peak

Pursuant to section 51(1) of the Maniapoto Claims Settlement Act 2022, the Minister of Conservation hereby notifies that the area described in the Schedule hereto has been declared to be subject to an overlay classification by section 46 of the Act.

The provisions of the Act which relate to the overlay areas are sections 46 to 59.

Pursuant to section 51(1)(b) of the Act, the Minister hereby notifies that the following Protection Principles are directed at the Minister of Conservation avoiding harm to, or the diminishing of, Maniapoto values related to Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak:

  1. protection of wāhi tapu, indigenous flora and fauna and the wider environment within Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak;
  2. recognition of the mana, kaitiakitanga and tikanga of the descendants with regard to Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak;
  3. respect for Maniapoto tikanga within Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak;
  4. encouragement of the respect for the association of Maniapoto with Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak;
  5. accurate portrayal of the association of Maniapoto with Part of Pureora Forest Park which falls within the area of interest, including Pureora Peak; and
  6. recognition of the relationship of Maniapoto with the wāhi tapu and wāhi whakahirahira.
