Gazette.govt.nzPursuant to sections 61, 62, 70, 75, 77, 82, 87, 89, 91, 98 and 109 of the Maniapoto Claims Settlement Act 2022 (“Settlement Act 2022”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (“Board”) gives notice of 12 new and altered official geographic names and eight discontinued Crown protected area (“CPA”) names, as described in the Schedules below. The new and altered names referred to under section 61 relate to clause 5.46 of the Deed of Settlement.
The new and altered official geographic names and discontinued CPA names took effect on 24 November 2022, being the settlement date specified in the Settlement Act 2022. Pursuant to section 63 of the Settlement Act 2022, the Board may in the future agree to alter any official geographic name listed in Schedule 1 with the written consent of the trustees of Te Nehenehenui.
