Pursuant to section 12 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (“Act”), the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (“Board”) specifies the prescribed qualifications for Dispensing Opticians.
This is notice that:
- The Board revokes the following prescribed qualification for the dispensing optician scope of practice from the Notice of Scopes of Practice and Related Qualifications Prescribed by the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board 2020:
The applicant holds the qualification Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing (conferred on or after 31 May 2009), awarded by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, or proof of eligibility to graduate from this course, has completed the “Perform Edge and Fit” module as part of the qualification, and has submitted a completed and signed record of training book showing evidence of the completion of a minimum of 800 hours of practical experience as specified in the record of training book, within two years of qualification or a period otherwise approved by the Board (Pathway 5 – “Dispensing Optician”).”
- Pursuant to section 14(1A) of the Act the revocation of the above qualification does not affect the registration of a dispensing optician who qualified to practise in the dispensing optician scope of practice on the basis of holding that qualification.
- Pursuant to section 12(5) of the Act, the Board gives notice to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, now RMIT University, that its accreditation for the purpose of the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing qualification is revoked.
- This notice comes into force on 15 September 2022.
Dated at Wellington this 19th day of July 2022.
