Te Kākā Kura o Ngāti Toa Rangatira Establishment Notice
Pursuant to sections 190, 204 and 205 of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish in Titahi Bay, Porirua a Year 1–13 co-educational, composite school to be known as Te Kākā Kura o Ngāti Toa Rangatira, and designate the school as a designated character school under section 204 of the Act.
Te Pā Kākā Kura o Ngāti Toa Rangatira will deliver its curriculum in Māori Medium Education Level 1, and operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives which will together constitute its designated character.
As part of the designated character, teaching will be conducted in te reo Māori (mita Toatanga), and fundamental tikanga and kawa (cultural values, norms and practices) are embedded within the teachings from Ngāti Toa kaumatua and kuia.
The iwi has developed the following three priority themes for its kura:
The kura will determine a pathway for tamariki as Māori, affirm their uniqueness and nurture them in an environment that is iwi responsive, and whose mauri is Māori.
This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
