Under sections 190, 204 and 205 of the Education and Training Act 2020 (“Act”), I hereby establish a Year 1–13 co-educational composite school to be known as Te Kura o Kauwhata, in Feilding, and designate the school as a designated character school.

Te Kura o Kauwhata will operate the following aims, purposes and objectives which will together constitute its designated character:

• The curriculum will be grounded in taonga tuku ihohanga (cultural inheritance) of Ngāti Kauwhata ancestry
• Te Reo Māori will be the primary language of instruction
• Mātauranga taketake and Te Ao Māori will be embedded in all teaching and learning

The constitution of the board will be an alternative constitution.

Under section 205(4) of the Act, I name Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa as a body having a special affiliation with the wharekura.

This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
