A compensation payment has been made to Ashor Gorgus aka Ashor Gorges aka Asher Gorges aka Ashor Gewargis aka Edmon Nissan aka Ashor Benjamin in respect of a specified claim under the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“Act”).

The Act requires that after the Secretary of Justice makes certain deductions from the compensation payment, the surplus remaining goes into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account to enable victims of Ashor Gorgus to make claims against it.

Any money left after any victims’ claims have been paid will be paid to Ashor Gorgus.

On 25 August 2022, $16,000.00 was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on behalf of Ashor Gorgus.

The money paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account is held in trust for Ashor Gorgus until it has been paid out in accordance with subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Any person who has been a victim of Ashor Gorgus, in respect of an offence for which Ashor Gorgus was convicted in a Court of New Zealand, is entitled to make a claim against the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Ashor Gorgus.

Claims by victims are not limited to the amount available in the Trust Account.
