Notice of End of Process for Making and Determining Victims’ Claims

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“Act”), compensation awarded to Nuku Te Ari Ngaki Tawa-Winiata was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 14 December 2021 on behalf of Nuku Te Ari Ngaki Tawa-Winiata to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 21 January 2022, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on 17 January 2022 the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 22 January 2022 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Nuku Te Ari Ngaki Tawa-Winiata in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.
