Notice of Application to Vary Terms of a Charitable Trust

Take notice that RMH SOUTH ISLAND TRUST (also known as Ronald McDonald House South Island) (RMH SI) will make an application to the High Court at Christchurch on 28 March 2022 at 10.00am for orders under Part 3 of the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 for approval of a scheme to transfer RMH SI’s assets and charitable activities to Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand Trust (RMHC NZ).

RMH SI provides accommodation and support to families of children with cancer or other life-threatening conditions who are undergoing treatment in the South Island. The proposed scheme will make changes to RMH SI’s purpose which will allow RMH SI to transfer its assets, services, staff, and activities to RMHC NZ.

If the scheme is approved, RMHC NZ will continue the provision of charitable activities currently undertaken by RMH SI. RMH SI does not anticipate any change to any of the day-to-day operations currently undertaken by RMH SI, including the operation of the Ronald McDonald House in Christchurch, and the Family Rooms operated by RMH SI at Christchurch and Southland Hospitals.

Members of the public may inspect the application at the Registry of the High Court at Christchurch or at the offices of Duncan Cotterill, Christchurch, without fee or charge.

Any person who wishes to oppose the scheme is required to give written notice to the Registrar, RMH SI, and the Attorney-General not less than seven clear days before the date of the hearing (i.e. no later than 20 March 2022):
