In accordance with section 446(a) and (b) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Maritime New Zealand, on behalf of the Associate Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make the following Maritime Rules:

Maritime Rules Various Amendments (Parts 23 and 53) 2022

The proposed Maritime Rules Various Amendments (Parts 23 and 53) 2022 contains amendments to:

  • Revoke Rule 53.4(2)(a) to reduce complexity and clarify the regulatory regime.
  • Make a number of other changes to Part 53 to improve safety and make the Rules more consistent with the international maritime framework.
  • Make a change to Part 23 to improve safety so it is clear that crew are not required to be aboard lifeboats when they are lowered during a drill.

Comments are invited on the above proposed rules developed under the Maritime Transport Act 1994.

Consultation will commence on 22 August 2022.

Submissions must be made by email or post by 5.00pm, 3 October 2022.
