New Zealand Meat Board must reapportion tariff rate quota allocations following the exit of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) Customs Union and Single Market, which immediately resulted in the splitting of New Zealand’s current TRQ access to the EU between the EU and the UK. (“UK Exit”). The UK and the EU have split existing EU TRQs between them based on historic trade patterns.

The Board does not accept the legitimacy of the EU and UK’s approach. Nonetheless, while New Zealand goes through the process of challenging this, the Board needs to respond to the UK exit outcome for the High Quality Beef TRQ.

Pursuant to section 31 of the Meat Board Act 2004, notice is given that the New Zealand Meat Board has allocated access of United Kingdom High Quality Beef Tariff Rate Quota for the 2020-2021 Quota Year, effective from 1 January 2021, as follows.

[NB: This is a retrospective quota allocation applying from 1 July 2020 informed by UK Government authorities in January 2021 following the UK Exit, and quota balances for the 2020–2021 year will also reflect use of quota entitlement prior to 31 December 2020.]
