Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“Act”), compensation awarded to Raymond Murray was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 27 August 2020 on behalf of Raymond Murray to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 4 September 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 5 September 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

Under sections 48(3) and 52(1) of the Act, the Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Raymond Murray.
