Pursuant to section 5(1)(d) of Schedule 1AA of the Resource Management Act 1991, the Minister for the Environment gives notice that Contaminated land management guidelines No. 1: Reporting on contaminated sites in New Zealand (CLMG 1); and Contaminated land management guidelines No. 5: Site investigation and analysis of soils (CLMG 5), hereafter referred to as “Guidelines”, will be replaced with updated versions. The updated Guidelines have been certified as correct copies by the Chief Executive of the Ministry for the Environment.
The updated versions of the Guidelines become the current versions of the guidelines on 1 July 2021.
The Guidelines are incorporated by reference into the Resource Management (National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health) Regulations (NESCS).
The Guidelines have been updated to provide practitioners and regulators with up-to-date guidance around contaminated land investigation and reporting. The Guidelines now apply to a wide range of sample media and investigation types, and offer good practice guidance for contaminated land investigations and reporting, both for complying with the NESCS and in a variety of regulatory and non-regulatory purposes.
Correct copies of the updated Guidelines may be inspected free of charge at the offices of the Ministry for the Environment, 23 Kate Sheppard Place, Thorndon, Wellington. Printed copies of the Guidelines will not be available for purchase, but digital copies of the Guidelines can be accessed free of charge on the Ministry for the Environment website at: https://environment.govt.nz/publications/contaminated-land-management-guidelines-no-1-reporting-on-contaminated-sites-in-new-zealand and https://environment.govt.nz/publications/contaminated-land-management-guidelines-no-5-site-investigation-and-analysis-of-soils.
Dated this 14th day of June 2021.
Hon DAVID PARKER, Minister for the Environment.
