This notice issued pursuant to section 74(1) of the Water Services Act 2021 (“Act”) by the Chief Executive of Taumata Arowai – the Water Services Regulator (Taumata Arowai), acting under delegated authority, appoints the Accreditation Council operating as International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ), as a laboratory accreditation body to accredit persons to perform the functions of a laboratory that analyses source water, raw water and drinking water.

This notice is the Appointment of IANZ as a Laboratory Accreditation Body Notice 2021.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to appoint IANZ as a laboratory accreditation body to accredit persons to perform the functions of a laboratory that analyses source water, raw water and drinking water.
3. Commencement
- The appointment comes into force on 15 November 2021 and remains in force until it is revoked.
- The appointment may be revoked at any time by notice in the New Zealand Gazette.
4. Appointment of the Laboratory Accreditation Body
- IANZ is appointed as the laboratory accreditation body under section 74(1) of the Water Services Act 2021:
- IANZ is the operating unit for the Accreditation Council, a Crown entity continued under section 33 of the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015 and for the purposes of the Crown Entities Act 2004.
- The appointment is subject to IANZ maintaining its approval by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation under the Mutual Recognition Arrangement evaluation process.
- Taumata Arowai and IANZ will have an agreed Memorandum of Understanding that sets out the roles and responsibilities of the two organisations in relation to the accreditation and assessment of laboratories undertaking analysis of source water, raw water and drinking water.
- The Memorandum of Understanding will be published on the Taumata Arowai website https://www.taumataarowai.govt.nz.
