Pursuant to section 61(3) of the Government Roading Powers Act 1989, and the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017, the NZ Transport Agency hereby makes the following bylaw.

Bylaw

1. Title and Commencement—This bylaw is the New Zealand Transport Agency (Speed Limits on State Highways) Amendment Bylaw 2021/22 and will come into force on and from 8 September 2021.

2. Amendments—The New Zealand Transport Agency (Speed Limits on State Highways) Bylaw 2010/10* is hereby amended by:

  • Inserting line 925A in Schedule 1 to read:
    “Line No.: 925A
    Region: 12
    SH No.: 6
    Locality: Franz Josef
    Section of State Highway: From NZTM Coordinates 1371700, 5193957, approximately 445m south of Tatare River Bridge (southern abutment) to NZTM2000 coordinates 1371552, 5193521, approximately 740m north of Douglas Drive.
    Speed Limit (km/h): see Schedule 2
    Effective date: 08/09/2021
    Speed Limit Rule: Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2017
    New Zealand Gazette Reference: 17 August 2021, Notice No. 2021-au3498”
  • Inserting line 925A in Schedule 2 to read:
    “Line No.: 925A
    Region: 12
    SH No.: 6
    Locality: Franz Josef
    Section of State Highway: From NZTM Coordinates 1371700, 5193957, approximately 445m south of Tatare River Bridge (southern abutment) to NZTM2000 coordinates 1371552, 5193521, approximately 740m north of Douglas Drive.
    Speed Limit (km/h): The variable speed limit may operate for a maximum period of:
    a. 35 minutes before the start of school until the start of school;
    b. 20 minutes at the end of school, beginning no earlier than five minutes before the end of school; and
    c. 10 minutes at any time when vehicles are entering or leaving the school grounds or there is pedestrian or cycle activity on the road outside the school,
    as specified in the New Zealand Gazette, 11 August 2021, Notice No. 2021-au3419
    When a variable speed limit sign installed on the section of State highway displays the numerals “60”, the speed limit is 60km/h. At all other times the speed limit is 80km/h.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the bylaw, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This bylaw, which comes into force on and from 8 September 2021, amends the New Zealand Transport Agency (Speed Limits on State Highways) Bylaw 2010/10.
