Fisheries (Notification of Tchakat Tchieki for Area/Rohe Moana of Hokotehi Moriori Trust) Notice 2020 (MPI 1122)

Pursuant to Regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tchakat Tchieki for Area/Rohe Moana of Hokotehi Moriori Trust) Notice 2020.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 14 February 2020.

3. Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause (d) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 1) 2010 (No. F507) (New Zealand Gazette, 14 January 2010, No. 1, page 61), which is an area around the Chatham Islands.

4. Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Moriori and Ngāti Mutanga.

5. Appointments cancelled

(1) The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of the following people as Tchakat Tchieki for the area/rohe moana:

  5. Mana Cracknel:
  6. Celine Gregory-Hunt.

(2) The cancellations took effect on 27 January 2020.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (“Regulations”). It comes into force on 14 February 2020.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Hokotehi Moriori Trust and Ngāti Mutanga. The area/rohe moana extends 200 nautical miles around the Chatham Islands.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of six Tchakat Tchieki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the cancellations at the request of Hokotehi Moriori Trust.

The powers of Tchakat Tchieki (Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) are set out in the Regulations.
