Pursuant to section 15(3) of the Kaikōura (Te Tai o Marokura) Marine Management Act 2014, I propose to prohibit seabed mining within Te Rohe o Te Whānau Puha Whale Sanctuary. Seabed mining means mining as defined in section 2(1) of the Crown Minerals Act 1991 but excluding mining for petroleum.

I will consider any written submission on my proposal received within 28 days after the publication of this notice in the New Zealand Gazette, 21 July 2020. All submissions must be sent to the following:
