Fisheries (Notification of Te Kopa o Rongokānapa Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) Notice 2020 (Notice No. MPI 1133)

Pursuant to Regulation 25 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Te Kopa o Rongokānapa Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) Notice 2020.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 29 June 2020.

3. Notification of Mātaitai Reserve

(1) This notice applies to Te Kopa o Rongokānapa Mātaitai Reserve, between the Mangatoetoe stream mouth and Potikirua Point, in the eastern Bay of Plenty, that is declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Te Kopa o Rongokānapa Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2020.

(2) The declaration of the mātaitai reserve takes effect on the commencement of this notice.

4. Appointments

(1) The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

The notice relates to Te Kopa o Rongokānapa Mātaitai Reserve, between the Mangatoetoe stream mouth and Potikirua Point, in the eastern Bay of Plenty. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Whanau a Kauaetangohia hapū.

Notice is given of the declaration of the mātaitai reserve and the appointment of 6 Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Te Whanau a Kauaetangohia hapū.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
